Session 3: What is a Wiki? Ideas for Using Wikispaces
To set up student accounts, email help@wikispaces.com with usernames and passwords.
In your email say:
"I would like to create student accounts for the following wikispace:
(Insert your wikispace name/http:)
Here are my usernames and passwords....."
Username example:
HES001, dolphin
HES002, dolphin
Tips:
Keep it simple: All of your students can have the same password even if they have different usernames.
Keep in mind that many usernames are already in use. For example, "purple" surely has already been taken, but you can still use it by adding a few code letters or numbers--"purpleHES" or "purple123."
THINK: DO YOU REALLY HAVE A NEED FOR ALL STUDENTS TO HAVE A DIFFERENT USERNAME? If students are going to be using the discussion board or creating a content wiki, then possibly, but if students are simply going to the wiki to access links you have posted, probably not.
Do you need to be able to identify who is doing the posting or editing on the wiki? If so, you probably want wiki usernames that are identifiable by you but would not be identifiable by the general public... NO FIRST/LAST NAMES.
Go here to sign up for a wiki user name and free K-12 wikispace.
