Writing is the next hot topic in our district this year. I would like for us to discuss what we ask students to write (curriculum), how we guide them in this writing (our direct instruction), and what we get (products or results). As a teacher, I always though about planning and teaching soley in the context of narrative writing and this teaching was confined to my writing block. I challenge you to think of the different purposes and audiences for which students should write.
Tammy R.'s class uses a wikispace such as this on to write informational texts about ecosystems. (By the way, I was inspired by this idea. So you have Tammy to thank for this little experiment of mine.) This approach gives students a purpose for writing and a sense of their audience as they try to share information about ecosystems. It's out- of- the box thinking by using a wikispace. So what about you? Let's talk about it! Click on the discussion tab to add a comment.
