You are ready for exactly what our next session is all about. We will be constructing our wikis and learning how to set up different pages to organize your content ideas. If you are really interested in collaborating with other PE teachers who would help pool resources, that would be a great idea. Instead of five PE teachers having five wikis or websites (for whatever purposes--like parent\/community outreach or a content wiki), PE teachers could collaborate on one wiki...which is what a wiki is supposed to be all about, people collaborating. What is that saying? The whole is greater than the sum of its parts? An easy way to get them collaborating once we get your space going a little is to send them the link to your site and invite them to join wikispaces and your wikispace.","dateCreated":"1206322494","smartDate":"Mar 23, 2008","userCreated":{"username":"tamaralynn","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/tamaralynn","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1202793136\/tamaralynn-lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"3307399","dateCreated":"1205769337","smartDate":"Mar 17, 2008","userCreated":{"username":"sheets","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/sheets","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/teacherdolphins.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/3307399"},"dateDigested":1531976772,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"class page","description":"My first attempt at creating a wiki will be a Spanish page on our HES website. I plan to have links for students\/parents for vocab, curriculum, activities, at-home activities, and extra links to expand learning. There are a lot of cool websites for kids (which I need to add to 'delicious').

\nOther ideas for creating classroom wikis will begin with my culture units: country studies, Aztec\/Maya civiliation, and Holidays. Students are obviously so much more comfortable writing\/researching\/posting in English.... Also, my upper grades often 'share' units in class; these kids could now work together within a wiki editing each other's work, projects, etc...","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"3307787","body":"sheets,

\ni think that your idea is great. once you get the navigation down, you will fly through everything else. the collaboration with the other spanish teachers is a novel idea. i think to with collaboration with other teachers and link them to your wiki would be good too. good post.

First graders are not quite as independent as older kids, so I need to find the best match for them. I do like the idea of a classpage that students and parents can access at home. I liked the examples of wiki spaces that had inks that related to classroom themes and opportunities to post student work. I think that is the direction that I will go in with my class.

\nI really like your idea for the spanish wiki. Up until this point, I have been solely using it to help my kids. They can go on the wiki and play math games that are directly related to what we are learning in the classroom. We technically are supposed to teach US History from the earliest explorers to the present, US geography, Canada, and Latin America. Of course there isn't enough time for everything, and I feel like our kids leave 5th grade with very little geographical awareness, for example knowing that the Grand Canyon is in Arizona and knowing that Arizona is in the South Western US.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"3307615","body":"Wow! Your SS curriculum could barely be covered in one year, eight hours a day. Connecting the grade-level classes would be a great start of researching and sharing so much of this info. I have done many things with the wiki and discussion board aspect using the data projector and as a whole class. This does cut down on the time it takes to get the job done and would also probally make it more do-able to collaborate with another classroom because they would only have to construct one letter as well. I bet the kids would get really excited waiting to see if the other class has responded to their letter. Now that I am thinking about it, Frankie discussed having a classroom "reader's response" notebook. What if that notebook was housed on a wiki, and then it would be just one more step to link up with another teacher and have a digital conversation. This could also be used to teach lessons and model reader response letters.","dateCreated":"1206322705","smartDate":"Mar 23, 2008","userCreated":{"username":"tamaralynn","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/tamaralynn","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1202793136\/tamaralynn-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"4015061","body":"I love the idea about housing a class reader response journal on a wiki!
